Apple Takes On Distracted Driving With New Feature

WWDC News: MacBooks and iMacs Refreshed, macOS High Sierra Introduced

10.5-inch iPad Pro vs 12.9-inch iPad Pro: What's the difference?

Not only did Apple explicitly release a software toolkit to help its developers add AI features like image recognition to apps, but Apple itself added even more AI-like features to its own apps.

Here is a lowdown of all the happened on the opening day at San Jose. While accurate, Apple went a relatively different direction in that they not only produced a home hub voice assistant, they added a high-end speaker that could compete with with Sonos. At the WWDC, Apple also confirmed the launch of a $349 Siri-infused HomePod speaker that works with a Music subscription. Apple Music is the star of the show but the speaker will more or less be able to do anything that Siri can do.

In the bid to compete with Google Home and Amazon Echo, Apple has introduced the HomePod. It's more desktop-like, and includes things such as dragging pictures from one app to another. Needless to say, Siri would provide the AI backbone.

The HomePod is due to be released in Australia in December, with the price to be announced soon (expect around $500 based on U.S. pricing). It will initially be available in the US, UK, and Australia. The week before the conference, news websites and message boards were ripe with rumors and predictions on what Apple's keynote at WWDC 2017 will reveal, and now the results are finally in. The displays also incorporate ProMotion technology, which is just a fancy way of saying that they have a refresh rate of 120Hz instead of 60Hz. The 12.9-inch iPad Pro is available in silver, space gray and gold and starts at $799 (approx Rs 51400) for the 64GB Wi-Fi model and $929 (approx Rs 59800) for the 64GB Wi-Fi + Cellular model. Powering the device will be a new A10X Fusion chip which Apple claims to provide for a 30 percent performance improvement over its predecessor. Some of its key highlights include the Files app that lets you browse, search, and organize all your files in one place.

The Photos app has also received a few nifty upgrades.

The new iOS 11 software has some interesting updates, including some new storage features and mapping features, but again most of the updates were incremental rather than revolutionary. You can also send it to someone or withdraw it to your bank account. It means you will be able to keep more photos and videos on your device.

Apple has suggested that it could potentially use speed detection to know if a user is in a vehicle when it's moving.

iOS 11 is now fitted with a new Do Not Disturb feature that blocks non-important notifications if it detects you are driving.

WatchOS 4 will also bring updates to the watch's fitness tracking, including a new user interface for the workout app and new integrations with gym equipment manufacturers.

MacBook Pros will be shipped with Intel's Kaby Lake processors and faster SSDs.

And if you are wondering about the battery according to Apple the new iPad Pro models will have fast charging and the battery life will last for 10 hours.

The iMac Pro will start at $4,999 in the USA and will be available in December. This new model will also replace the smaller 9.7-inch iPad Pro, which rolled out just one year ago.

ARKit will tap into the built-in capabilities of the hardware so that developers will be able to build virtual content such as interactive games on top of real-world objects. For instance, a demo was given on how a cup can generate shadow in front of a lamp when it is turned on in Augment Reality.
