Apple's wireless AirPods charging case is reportedly coming in December for $69

As always, Apple warns actual recharge times vary on many conditions, so it might take slightly longer than 30 minutes in some cases.

Until now, if you've wanted to use a wireless charging pad at Starbucks or any of the other locations that Powermat cut a deal with, you've needed some sort of adapter.

It was that all of the company's newest lines of phones-the iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and X-will all support wireless charging. According to rumors the new wireless charging case for the AirPods will start selling in December of this year.

Apple didn't mention the fast charging in its launch event, but it did talk about all kinds of new charging technologies.

AppleInsider spoke with sources inside Apple not authorized to speak for the company, and was told that pricing on the peripheral had not been decided yet.

With a growing consumer base, new convenience innovations for consumers, and even a financial incentive for businesses offering "free" wireless power, it's more likely than ever that wireless charging will finally enter the mainstream.

There is a third wireless charging technology that uses radio waves. The coils inside the smartphone convert the energy in that electromagnetic field into an electric current, and charge your device.

You do, of course, need a wire to connect the charging mat to a power source, so wireless charging still now requires you to carry a cable. Fast charging is only possible with a compatible USB-C to Lightning cable and USB-C charger.

How does wireless charging work?

Until now, that flexibility has been used primarily to increase the amount of power each charging pad can deliver.

If you're a long-time iPhone user who hasn't heard of inductive charging, you're not alone. There are plenty of great Qi wireless chargers from the list below and even more coming out each and every day - with the most popular devices of the year both featuring Qi wireless charging, that's not a big surprise. Luckily, Apple's adopting a well-supported standard for inductive charging, rather than muddying up the waters by introducing its own.

Depending on which phone you want, they range from $700 to $1,000. That's a type of wireless charger, to be released in 2018, that can adequately charge multiple devices on one surface. At least you can hold it.

If you have a 7, it's probably not worth your money. You'll be asleep anyway, so you may as well use one during your snooze.

Instead of having to slot the Qi charging receiver between your phone and a case, you just stick it on the back with the film provided and plug the Micro USB into your phone.

The fast charge feature allows users to juice up 50 percent of their batteries in half an hour.
