Should You Get The IPhone 8 Or Wait For The iPhone X?

Apple TV remote

Apple just announced a new Apple TV that will stream video in ultra-sharp 4K resolution

The phone will also feature the new A11 Bionic chip, which Schiller described as "the most powerful and smartest chip ever in a smartphone". The highlight of the Apple Watch Series 3 is the built-in support for LTE connectivity, alongside the standard Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity options. However, there has been no deal struck with any Irish operator at launch, while EE in the United Kingdom will be a launch operator for the Apple Watch 3. Apple also reduced the price of Apple Watch Series 1 to $249.

Apple is also offering the ability to unlock the phone with facial recognition rather than a fingerprint or passcode. There's a bigger focus on fitness as the watch flags you when it notices an elevated pulse. But there's not a lot of video in 4K and HDR yet, nor are there many TVs that can display it. Apple TV doesn't have its own display and needs to be connected to a TV.

Also yesterday, Apple announced two other phones, the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus.

Similarly, the two different storage versions of the iPhone 8 are retailing in the United States for US$699 (A$871) and US$799 (A$995) respectively, compared to A$1079 and A$1229 in Australia. The iPhone 8 starts at $699. Apple claims that the glass on the back is the "most durable glass ever in a smartphone". This can be used for authenticating Apple Pay and secure apps simply by looking at the phone, and is reportedly much more secure than the Touch ID in current models.

(Well, mostly.) For the iPhone X, Apple is introducing Face ID technology, which is going one better than the thumbprint tech that's guarded previous versions of the iPhone.

Twitter users made apparent good use of the line "I declare bankruptcy" from U.S. comedy The Office to poke fun at the £999 price.

The lower-storage version is still a pricy $999, or £999 for United Kingdom customers (I think the exchange rate magically got worse in Apple's world), but brace yourself for the cost of a 256GB phone. Also, it supports Apple 3D Touch technology and True Tone technology. A new model will still require a companion iPhone, but comes with cellular access.

As predicted, iPhone X, which was the main attraction of the event, contains edge-to-edge OLED display with a virtual home button.

The phone packs a bundle of sensors and cameras at the top of the phone.

The new Apple iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus will come in three colours: space grey, silver and gold, and will be available at a starting price of Rs 64,000 and Rs 73,000 respectively for the 64GB version.

While some people are still balking at the new iPhone X's expensive price tag, others have moved on to more important things. like emoji. After the price cut - last year's iPhone - the iPhone 7 - 32GB model is available at Rs 49,000, while the 128GB storage variant is now available at Rs 58,000.
