With 2 minutes, 32 seconds left in a tie game Monday night at Soldier Field, Bears rookie quarterback Mitch Trubisky stood 90 yards from entering another level of Bears lore - and the end zone. But a win as the win, and the 3-2 Vikings remain in the thick of things in the NFC playoff picture. Mitchell Trubisky gets the start for the Bears, who have looked as competitive as any 1-3 team in football. The Bears lost 20-17 to Minnesota in the Week 5 contest, but despite falling short on the scoreboard, Chicago took full advantage of a couple of opportunities the Vikings presented them thanks to some innovative and perfectly-executed calls.
I'll grade him a bit more extensively later, but for now, I think the eye test will serve fine for this play. McKinnon ran for 95 yards on 16 carries as the surprise feature back.
Vikings players praised Keenum, who completed 17 of 21 passes for 140 yards and a touchdown.
"He'll beat you, then be walking back to the huddle, look over and just smile at you". He felt good about it, medical people felt good about it, everybody. Bears LB Danny Trevathan served a one-game suspension for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Green Bay Packers WR Davante Adams in Week 4.
You didn't think I forgot about this play, did you? The turnover allowed the Vikings to run the clock down and kick the winning field goal with 12 seconds left. "Latavius had some good conversions, I had some good conversions..."
On the first sack, which resulted in a safety for Chicago, the Vikings were backed up at their own 5-yard line after being slapped with a holding penalty on a punt return.
Chicago's first pass play of over 30 yards this season came on a fake punt in the third quarter when Patrick O'Donnell found a leaking Benny Cunningham wide open in the middle of the field. He rushed for 95 yards and a touchdown and led the team with 51 receiving yards in the Vikings' first game without star rookie Dalvin Cook. Wearing a brace on his left knee underneath his uniform, Bradford was hesitant while running and on his throws.
"I was trying to just (elevate teammates) with my presence, how much I love this game and how much I love this team", he said.
"We'll take everything day by day and see how it goes", he said.
We'll have up-to-the-minute scoring and stats here throughout the game.
Now, if only someone could tell me why he didn't feel adventurous enough to go for the tie afterward. He finished 12 of 25 for 119 yards with a lucky touchdown and the late interception.
On Monday night, Mitchell Trubisky made his debut as Chicago's starting quarterback in a move the Bears organization (and fans) hoped would help kickstart their dismal offense. But the secret ingredient for this gorgeous play is that tight end Zach Miller-who Jordan Howard handed the ball off to and later pitches it to Trubisky-was a college option quarterback at Nebraska-Omaha.
The Vikings overcame two instances of Bears trickery Monday.
