In recent years, as tech has moved ever more aggressively into the automobile industry, the annual North American International Auto Show has been overshadowed by the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) - an industry trade show held this week in Las Vegas.

The show, officially called the North American International Auto Show, was originally devised in the 1980s to boost the United States auto industry amid the rise of Japanese and German imports.

The answer is still unclear.

Ford's aluminium-bodied F-150 is slap-bang in the middle of its model cycle, but Ford has injected some new life into the USA's top selling vehicle with the addition of a new diesel engine.

The 2018 Auto Show is underway in Detroit, Michigan, with a focus on trucks - and the future. The new Silverado also is made mostly of steel, including a high-strength steel cargo box, unlike the top-selling US pickup truck, Ford Motor Co's (F.N) F-150, which has a body and cargo box made of aluminum. The new model is 450 pounds lighter than previous models, but boasts more passenger and cargo space. The regular Edge also gets an update, with a more efficient 2.0-litre four-cylinder that puts out 250 horsepower. It's even fitted to the Ford F-150 Raptor. The truck itself, however, will be fully built on USA soil, with assembly done in the revamped Ford Assembly Plant in MI, and it will be drawing on North American parts for each truck. Ford's F-Series pickup is the country's top-selling vehicle, followed by the GM's Chevy Silverado and Fiat-Chrysler's Ram. It goes on sale next spring, eight years after Ford pulled it off the market in the USA and Canada.

But that would still make it one of the 10 best sales years in history, so the market remains strong.

Before every Californian bought a Toyota Prius, the Honda Insight was the first hybrid production auto to go on sale in the USA, back in 1999. "They're giving the trucks more aggressive styling, which helps make them stand out", he said. But the increase could be negated as rising rates keep some people on the sidelines, and some buyers opt for a lower-cost but nice off-lease used vehicle. Both FX2 and FX4 models include an electronically locking rear differential, three functional steel skid plates that are mounted to the frame and protect the engine and transmission, off-road-tuned shocks, and all-terrain tires.

But he expects luxury new-car sales to be flat this year even though tax rates were reduced for higher-income earners.

American auto enormity Ford will increase its investment in electric vehicles to $11bn (£7.97bn) in the next five years, it announced yesterday at the North American International Auto Show.

"A small auto is likely the first new vehicle a young person buys", she said in an email. Focuses are still being built there even as construction workers are building assembly lines for the Ranger but, in the next few months, production of the Focus for the US market will shift to China. Ending the agreement also could force some suppliers to stop making parts. But some automakers are already taking pre-emptive steps to show the administration they're willing to boost US production. Fiat Chrysler is relocating that operation from Mexico to MI in 2020, a move expected to create 2,500 well-paying jobs.

The most radical was the LF-1 Limitless that ditched pedals in favour of steering wheel mounted controls.

You might feel like quite a big deal cruising around in your Ranger plastered with "Raptor" accessories, but somewhere in a faraway land with a geographically illiterate overlord, your pride and joy would actually be classified as a "compact" pick-up.

"We're all in on this and we're taking our mainstream vehicles, our most iconic vehicles, and we're electrifying them", the company said, adding: "If we want to be successful with electrification, we have to do it with vehicles that are already popular".

"These are long-term capital investments", Reuss said. The company shuttered the 86-year-old Minnesota factory where the Ranger was made.

It wowed fans with a reveal of a Mustang Bullitt alongside a surprise appearance from the original movie auto that was believed to be lost.

Helping to achieve that figure are the 1500's active aerodynamics features - including grille shutters, an electrically deployable aero spoiler below the front bumper, and air suspension, which automatically lowers the truck around 15mm at highway speeds.
