Sweden has been the most consistent team at the Gangneung Curling Center, first in the round-robin standings at 7-2 and an easy 10-4 victor against the Americans a week ago.
The two powerhouses have traded world titles and Olympic medals since the 1990s.
The Americans will take on Sweden, who defeated Switzerland 9-3 in the other semifinal on Saturday at 1:35 a.m.
But rather than quit, Shuster lost 35 pounds and formed his own team a team that became known in curling circles as The Rejects.
"When it comes down to shootout, it can go either way, but I'm very proud, not only of myself, but the team, and we just have to hold our heads high", said Agosta.
"I'm not disappointed in our effort", Kennedy said. "Some of us have dogs to get back to that we miss dearly, husbands and families, so we are really excited to what's to come after the Olympics".
"They're a fantastic curling team", Shuster said. She had two shots on goal, both in overtime.
"So this is the new normal for Canada, and people need to get used to that".
