Apple's wireless charging pad, dubbed AirPower, will likely ship in March, according to a new report from the generally reliable Japanese blog MacOtakara.

The new model is due for release next year and will come with an upgraded wireless chip along with water resistance.

According to sources the reason that Apple is designing AirPods that are water-resistant is to ensure that they are able to survive water or rain but this will not include being submerged in water.

Apple declined to comment on the report.

Another major improvement reportedly on its way is the ability to activate Siri by saying "Hey Siri", instead of tapping on the earbuds.

In the world of headphones, popular models can go years without being updated, but in the world of Apple, fast and regular iteration is the more expected cadence. We note that in the last reported quarter, Apple Watch unit and revenues grew 50% year over year for the fourth consecutive quarter.

A new report on Thursday morning from Bloomberg states that Apple is now working on at least two different updated versions of its popular AirPods. Initially, the wireless charging base will be sold through Apple's own retail stores and Best Buy. Besides, the upgraded wireless chip will help improve Bluetooth connectivity and facilitate easier transfers.

Apple current lineup of iPhones are all IP67 water and dust resistant, which means that they are completely resistant to splashes of water. As for the new wireless charging AirPods case, Apple now charges $69 to replace the standard case, so expect to pay more than that.

Rumours are circling that Apple is also working on a third-generation version ofor release in 2019 that will be waterproof. A Bloomberg copy reports that Apple is working on AirPods 2 and it could launch this year.

Google Assistant is the viable alternative to Apple Siri but the company never implemented it on any headsets until recently.
