President Trump wishes Rob Porter well after resignation

White House chief of staff John Kelly, who is under fire for his handling of the Porter situation, was in the room for Mr. Trump's remarks. Several reports have said that White House officials knew about the allegations before they became public.

As White House staff secretary, Mr Porter was responsible for reviewing all documents signed by the President, from legislation to executive orders.

The paper said he had vehemently denied the allegations, saying he was the victim of domestic violence in the marriage. He denies the allegations.

White House speechwriter David Sorensen has resigned, following accusations of physical and emotional abuse leveled against him by his former wife, Jessica Corbett.

¹I assume this isn't true, but that's obviously never made a difference in the Trump White House.

Trump has also tapped former Deputy Chief of Staff Jim Carroll to serve as the next drug czar.

Rob Porter, White House staff secretary, resigned Wednesday as allegations surfaced that he had physically and emotionally abused two former wives.

White House Chief of Staff John Kelly has so far taken the brunt of the blame.

Kelly says, "Forty minutes later he was gone". That afternoon, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Porter still had the White House's support and that the decision to resign was his own.

It seems that Kelly had done something to aggravate Trump, because reports suggest that Trump didn't just call Priebus, but called many friends and advisors to rage against Kelly.

President Trump has defended one of his top aides who resigned over claims he beat his two ex-wives.

When the allegations first emerged against Mr Porter a number of senior aides rallied around him, and the White House acknowledged that personal relationships may have played a role in their response.

In the end, Kurtz said, people are "trying to make this a Trump problem; it's not a Trump problem". He has denied the charges. "He worked very hard".

Trump also stressed that Porter has maintained his innocence.

"I think Gen. Kelly has done an extraordinary job as chief of staff to President Trump".

Senior aides knew for months about the allegations levied against Porter, even as his stock in the West Wing continued to rise, multiple sources have told CNN.

Shah says President Donald Trump was not informed about the specifics of Porter's security clearance and has been "saddened" by the whole episode. One of them, the Intercept, published a photo showing one of the women with a black eye that she said she was from being hit by Porter.
